The soils are deep alluvial river sands and stone, left behind by the Esk River. Perfectly suited for aromatic whites, it was a no brainer to partner up with Phillip Barber of Petane Wines, to produce our Pinot Gris. Phillip farms his land with the upmost respect for everything above AND below the ground. Some say limestone is the holy grail of wine growing soil, think Champagne, Burgundy and the Southern Rhone. Slightly off the beaten track, at the Western end of the Havelock Hills is Pakipaki, the home of the Hopes Grove vineyard, of Pieter Koopman. Pieter treats his vineyard with the respect and passion it deserves. These terraces are made up of greywacke and gravel under volcanic, silt based, stony topsoil. Two Terraces Vineyard is run by husband and wife team, Ian and Linda Quinn. A stunning young vineyard which they planted in 2016 and run meticulously. We are stoked to partner up with Ian and Linda on these two wines.
